Studio Mestiza was created as a way to share the beauty of handmade items to celebrate art, nature, and traditional craft. Since then, it has evolved into our founder’s creative brain child housing a portfolio of work, a publication called The Meadowsweet Journal, and an online shop offering small-batch home & wellness goods and art creations.

Taking inspiration from our founder’s hometown Cuernavaca, a pueblo characterized by stone roads, adobe houses, and Bougainvillea flowers, our handmade creations often reflect the feel of Mexico where the handmade touch exudes and a slower pace of life is celebrated.

Studio Mestiza is a love letter and safe space to celebrate brown hands making art with a deep connection to the earth. We welcome you to join our community of plant lovers and artists alike!

MEET THE FOUNDER

Elizabeth (Lizzy) Noriega is a multidisciplinary artist and the founder of Studio Mestiza. Originally from Cuernavaca, Mexico, Lizzy is a multidisciplinary artist whose mixed heritage as well as her love of nature and storytelling influence the way she approaches her art practice.

Lizzy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from California Institute of the Arts. Some of her most notable work in Dance and Performing Arts was getting to work with Evelyn Serrano on “Rueda, a Devised Theater Performance” shown at El Ciervo Encantado Theater in La Habana, Cuba and Plaza de la Raza in Los Angeles, California, apprentice for Síza Dance Company in Los Angeles, California, and perform “In Just a Blink of an Eye” by Xu-Zhen at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, California. In Visual and Fine Arts, Lizzy has worked with Human Rights Foundation photographing their annual Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway, received second place from Utah Dance Film Festival for her dance photos under the “Special Process” category of Night Photography, and showcased analog photos from her trip to Europe in a group exhibition at WazmoKai gallery in San Francisco.

Lizzy has found a deep connection with the earth and prioritizes landscapes and natural lighting. She sees her years of innovation and creativity as essential for her development as a person, navigating the complexities and seasons of life. The heart of her work has always been about storytelling with the curiosity to learn and the desire to create. This has led her, most recently, to Ceramics and Permaculture Design, both disciplines centered around Organic Arts and the Earth. She hopes that her work presented as digital media and in tangible forms can evoke feelings of surrender that can transport people to slow and intentional moments of ease.
